Fred - Simple, Smart and Swift ECM


What is Fred ?

To bring ECM closer to the working environment of the user, XeniT developed a desktop application called Fred. Thanks to Fred, the full richness of Alfresco becomes easy to use for all employees in your company all over the world.

By reducing, in some cases decimate, the number of clicks for basic operations, supporting intuitive metaphors like drag & drop, right-mouse-click, etc., your users will enjoy interacting with Alfresco in an explorer like manner. Fred makes it dead simple to create, edit, find and delete a document, respecting the Alfresco imposed security rights.

Next to the ease of use of explorer-like operations, Fred discloses the full power of Alfresco with support for document types, aspects, meta-data and categories. Along the way, we assist your users to comply with your ECM governance policies. Fred reverses the single user paradigm in ECM into a centrally supported and guided way of working.


What does Fred do?

Fred simplifies what needs to be simple: How do I create a document from a central document store, how can I change, revise, and find it, how do I communicate about it, and finally how do I delete it?

Adding existing content is simple: drag and drop from or to your desktop, explorer or email account (mail or attachment). Creation of new content is simple: select first where it should reside in the ECM (!), select a document type, pick one of the associated templates and let Fred launch the appropriate editor.

The addition of metadata, unlike explorer, is naturally integrated in the process. Leveraging the simple search, we enrich searching by filtering and grouping, and will continue to enhance advanced search facilities tomorrow.

Organising your (part of the) folder structure is simple with Fred. Drag & drop to arrange and move files and folders, with one document, or multiple documents at once.

Meta-data are a complementary way to organise your documents. Fred delivers a fast and state-of-the-art experience, minimizing your time to fill in meta-data, and maximizing your return on meta-data while searching. Drop down lists, dependent list of values; rich GUI ele-ments (date picker ...), client-side validation and guid-ance to add and manage aspects are all enabled.

Search results can be filtered and sorted as you are used to in tools like MS Excel, in the way you would intuitively expect. However, this has been engineered with an Al-fresco ECM mindset, taking into account properties, as-pects, tags and categories.

Fred integrates into the desktop, allowing light-weight integration with virtually all desktop applications (MS Explorer, MS Office, Outlook, ...). By leveraging Fred for your ECM interactions, Fred can monitor what you are doing on the desktop, and takes care of your ECM desktop housekeeping, making sure that all documents find their way into the ECM store.
